How is the chemistry? That's the only thing that matters. When you think about it as often as it was brilliant sci-fi Star Trek could also be a very silly, campy show that was saved by some brilliant chemistry. Spock is in hot pursuit through time to save Kirk from assassination. SO - Bana is sitting under some pretty significant makeup. (I don't vouch for these details but they're widely being distributed at the moment and Anton Yelchin did agree that was the general plot outline).

Your remark RE: Uhura was spot-on. I expect this to have at least two groan-inducing moments where a character practically looks at the camera and says "Is that your FINAL ANWSER?" or something like that, making all kinds of stupid pop-culture references. There will be lots. In fact, the only thing there will be more of than pop-culture references will be all kinds of in-jokes that 'poke fun' at the original series or the relationships. Like, one character will definitely say with a tired sign "Damn it, damn it Jim..." and there will be a long-take close-up focus in on Spock right before he gives the eyebrow raise for the first time. There will be a scene where they will show off various 'Starfleet Uniform' desgigns in a big history lesson for recruits that will display various versions of the yellow Captain shirt and there will of course among them be the Mirror Universe sash, or at the least Kirk will say something like "Yellow's not my best color" or something like that. Uhura will INDEED be a Wanda Sykes type character instead of the gentle empathic soul she was in the original story, thereby sacrificing her character on the alter of progressive PC politics in favor of someone who will "slap 'em back, mmm-HMMMMM!" with a head jiggle, thereby making it utterly fucking racist as hell.

For a start, she's fucking HOT and they should make the most of that. Of course they'll do Kirk/Spock/Bones promotion too, but they really do need the female quotent to be on display at all times to attract the audience. She is, after all, pretty much the only good female character Trek has ever had (as part of regular crews, I mean). Troi? give me a fucking break. Dax? er, no. 7 of 9? Purllllease...tits but little else!!! OK OK, T'pol was good, but on a sucky show. Right now this movie is still looking good. I LOVE the sound of the Enterprise bridge, how it's way more realistic but still looks like the TOS ship, and the classic costumes. What we shouldn't expect is for the characters to be exactly the same, and people shouldn't whine about it. e.g. Shatner as Kirk, Pine isn't going to be the same as him, is he. But we shouldn't expect him to be. It's a new take on Kirk, INSPIRED by the original.

Anyway, SPOILERS, if the movie is about Time Travel and Nimoy Spock traveling back in time to the TOS era ... which means it IS set in the TNG timeline at least a bit. Maybe the Rommies make themselves more "human" looking when they travel back in time so they can blend in. (nobody saw the romulans until Balance of Terror). Yes, it's horrible continuity porn, but it'd be nice if there was some way to make it all (kinda) synch up.

I'm sticking by my original assertion and inside info from weeks ago. Shatner is very much in this movie, in more than a cameo. Abrams, Nimoy and Shatner have taken very deliberate actions to convince the public that Shatner has been excluded......he is in the film. My source also says that a similar poster has been prepared with Nimoy and Shatner striking similar poses to their counterparts and that this will be released closer to the film's release date.

This is one film that I really can't wait for! I just wish that they would have released it in late November for a nice Thanksgiving/Christmas/January run. I fear that the box office will be congested in the summer, which spelled DOOM for other less-anticipated but popular franchise films like THE INCREDIBLE HULK, PRINCE CASPIAN and a few others. If Paramount continues with a early summer launch, I fear a $150-175M domestic box office. If Paramount launched it in November, I would expect a nice $215-$250M haul. It will still make a profit, but not in the amount that the studio hopes (or could make with a better decision). Less popular franchises perform much better with less competition. If the latest HULK film would have premiered in October, I suspect that it would have raked in $215M. As is, it might not hit $150M.

I have high hopes for a reboot and Spock looks like the real deal. I'm not sold on Pine yet, need to see a trailer. Would've liked to have see Urban in a poster as McCoy though. Bana will kick ass as a the bad guy, looks mad nasty in that pic. Also, FUCK PARAMOUNT UP THE ASS! J.J. said he would have this movie ready for Xmas and Paramount pushed it to spring of next year. Thanx for making us wait longer douchebags. Studio's are so fuckin greedy.

Why is it that every actor in a "remake" has to be or look like he's in his early twenties? At least give us someone who looks like they might be finished with their bachelors. Just like "Superman Returns"! Tom Welling looked older than him!
