Ah those heady days of Ralphie May, Dave Mordal, John Heffron, Gary Gulman, Tammy Pescatelli, Bonnie McFarlane, Kathleen Madigan, Cory Kahaney, Alonzo Bodden, and, um, Geoff Brown, Tess, Todd Glass, Ant, Rich Vos, Corey Holcomb, Sean Kent, Tere Joyce, Rob Cantrell, Jay London and Dat Phan.

The first two seasons of “Last Comic Standing,” aired during the summers of 2003 and 2004, were both huge hits for NBC, so the peacock rushed out a quickie third season during the autumn of 2004 that pitted the comics of the first season against the comics of the second.

But the shoddy nature of the third edition (and the absence of any new comics) caused viewers to stay away in droves. It did so badly, the finale – which revealed the big winner – wasn’t aired on NBC; it belatedly turned up for the first time on Comedy Central!

Now, some 19 months later, the show is back. Host Jay Mohr is gone, but the series has returned to its old format of seeking out new comics.

Will crappy comics like Ant and Dat Phan again triumph over their betters?
