“Last Comic Standing,” which gave us Ralphie May, Dave Mordal, Alonzo Bodden, Gary Gulman, Kathleen Madigan, Bonnie McFarlane and John Heffron – as well as Ant, Tess, and Dat Phan – looks like it’ll return with a fourth NBC edition following a nearly two-year hiatus.

The show won big ratings when its first and second editions stuck 10 comedians in a house a la “The Real World.” But when the house was eliminated and the quickie third season became just a battle between the contestants of the first two seasons, people stopped watching in droves. (It got so bad NBC didn’t even bother to air the finale – the third season champ was actually revealed on Comedy Central.)

Happily, the show appears to be returning to its roots, starting fresh with a new batch of stand-ups. NBC will likely air it this summer.
