NYC Licensing Show! Random Stuff! POTC 2, CHARLOTTE

Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...

The KONG images are massive cockteases. I’ll warn you about that right upfront. Most of the time, the whole purpose of a banner at these shows is simply to tell you something’s coming. KONG’s been kept under pretty tight wraps so far, although we heard today from one guy who actually saw the trailer we’re getting next week, and he said:

The footage is fantastic since it amazes me that Jackson is probably still in the midst of tweaking the effects shots.

But rest assured no one will doubt what is in the trailer will blow everyone away when the film finally comes out.

I don't know who shot the film most likely Andrew Lesnie (forgive the spelling) but he gives Kong a patina of blues & grays that actually give the film a warm, textured feel.

I think what will astound people most is the seamless effects in the city & ocean scenes.

Getting Kong & the dinosaur footage right was probably a no brainer but the amount of detail & nuance just in the expository scenes are impressive.

Can't wait to see this on the big screen.

In the meantime, there was a booth at the show that doesn’t reveal anything, but which I’m told was gigantic, suggesting Kong by sheer scale:

In the case of a sequel like DEAD MAN’S CHEST, aka PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 2, you get a quick glimpse of returning characters in these banners:

With a story that’s as well known as CHARLOTTE’S WEB, you wonder how they’re going to bring certain well-known characters to life, and a show like this gives you a first peek:

Here’s a deliciously blasphemous image to help promote THE DEVIL’S REJECTS:

And if they make this trilogy true to the original books, there’s plenty of blasphemy in store for viewers here as well:

Not sure what they plan to license for this title, although I’m sure I could find something inappropriate to do with a Zhang Ziyi Geisha action figure:

And finally, even though it’s blurry, proof that New Line is starting to push TENACIOUS D: THE PICK OF DESTINY. Heck, they even gave Pitdoc his very own Pick of Destiny today. How cool is that?

Thanks, Pitdoc.

"Moriarty" out.
