Rav bares all at Palm Beach..... ....Film Festival!!!

Hey folks, Harry here... Rav sucks... He's getting to meet and talk to Fay Wray. Rav sucks! That is like... so unfair. You know, he's probably only seen KING KONG, and that was because I showed it to him two years ago at BUTT-NUMB-A-THON 3!!! I hate Rav. Sigh. Oh well, here's his rundown of the festival shorts at this year's festival, he'll be filing many more reports about the features and about his spying on Ratner and Michael Jackson... how scandalous!

Hey Harry and Everybody,

It's Rav reporting in from the Palm Beach International Film Festival. There's been a ton of crazy events goin on around here. Celebrity sightings becoming more and more odd, regular, and random around here. Brett Ratner seems to be popping up from behind every dumpster, as well as Michael Jackson has come out of hiding here, fake nose and all for a Gala earlier. In addition to the celebrities wandering around the film fest has been exhibiting a kickass indie schedule this year. Where I have seen some really awesome features that I am dying to tell you about, namely Broadway: The Golden Age and The Annihilation of Fish, Although that is not what I am here to tell you about today. What I am really jazzed to talk about is their short film program, which has so far blown me away again and again all through the fest.

The first short was actually the first indie film I was able to see at the festival. The film was Jeremy Osbern's The Passion (P-A-S-S-I-O-N). I must honestly admit when I first saw the title playing my heart skipped a beat because I had thought that it was Mel Gibson's crazy christian mega-project was actually here at the festival. Instead I got a look at a great first effort from a very talented filmmmaker. Passion is a fantastic blend of lighting, chroeography, and music. The film experiments with some poetic elements that might be construed a little as pretention, but the execution is what makes it shine. Beautiful cinematography as as choreography makes the passion the great first effort that it is.

The next short film is something that should have never beeen made. This is a short film from the auteur that brought us Mac And Me, produced by Suzanne De Laurentis (Daughter of Dino), starring Veronica De Laurentis. Susanne is an honoree at this years film festival, I still cant figure out how someone sane would honor her for her "film achievements." The short is nammed "While You Were Waiting" and is perhaps the worst anti-smoking PSA masquarading as a piece of art ever. Stay far far away. Dino perhaps yous should cut your daughter's allowance, maybe?

The Wedding Bout is a very unique little short film, from a young filmmaker named Russell Costanzo. The short puts a bride and groom fighting it out for all the little important details of life in an actual little boxing match. Yes, it's totally nonsensical, but the film never ceases being cute and fun. I heartily recommmend it to anyone wishing to quickly have a smile on their face.

The last film I am going to talk about is Jason Koffeman's Poloroid, which is surely the best thing at this year's festival. In the short time the film runs Koffema introduce fantastically well-rounded characters in a script that stays interesting throughout as well as manages to make a very unexpected turn. The short is just perfect, well acted, well shot, with a great soundtrack. I am having to hold myself back from spoiling or overhyping this one, which I might have just did. I just really will kill to see a Jason Koffeman feature right now. If you would like to see what I am talking about they are screening it in New York soon, May 6th at the Cantor Film Center at 8th between University street and Broadway or you can just contact the filmmaker yourself at right here .

Well I quickly must jet off to another movie. Also a bit of a reminder Fay Wray will be doing a Q&A here on Broadway: The Golden Age tomorrow night, I urge you all to come as it is a wonderful film as well that I cant wait to talk about more. For more information check out the festival's site at PBIFilmFest.Org I think that is right at least.

later,

Rav
